Blog comments & 3rd nine weeks self-select

Hello all! Fri. Jan. 23rd

Your objective for today is to choose your next self-select novel (to be completed by the end of this nine weeks) by using your peers' video book talks, the AP list, or the ALA list as resources.

There are four tasks you will complete today/over the weekend:

1.) If you have not yet uploaded your video from your H-drive to the blog, do this first. You will need to log on to the blog, and click on "new post." Your book's title should be the title of the post. Click on the "add video" icon (two icons down from the "ABC" icon). Select your video, and wait for it to upload (This may take about five minutes; be patient.). Once your video has uploaded, you MUST click "publish post" (orange button below the video).

2.) Choose five videos to view. Write a 5-7 sentence comment for each video. Model your comments off the sample comment below. You are earning credit for your comments!

I viewed Lindsay Jones's video about the book Of Mice and Men. I thought that Lindsay was an effective speaker and was well-prepared; she made frequent eye contact with the camera and didn't rely on her notecards too much. Her summary of the novel was concise yet included enough information to pique me interest. Of Mice and Men sounds like a book I would really enjoy, especially because of the friendship of the main characters, Lennie and George, that Lindsay described.

3.) Choose your next self-select novel. In addition to the videos, revisit the AP list. A website for the AP list is http://www.collegeboard.com/student/plan/boost-your-skills/23628.html. Another source you may use is the American Library Association's book lists. This website is http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/yalsa/booklistsawards/booklistsbook.cfm. Choose a book that interests you and that you feel will help you grow as a reader. Must be Ms. Duffy approved!

4.) Write a rationale for why you chose this book. This should be two paragraphs and should explain:
a) the process by which you chose the book
b) why you chose this book
c) what you predict this book will be about
d) how you will benefit from reading this book

DUE: Mon. Jan. 26th
